11 dog-friendly places to eat and drink amid the North Brabant countryside

Take a wonderful walk in the North Brabant countryside with your dog before enjoying a break on a lovely terrace or in a restaurant. How nice is it when your faithful four-legged friend is also welcome? In North Brabant there are plenty of places to eat and drink where dogs are just as welcome as their owners. From bowls of water and dog biscuits to special dog menus, at these 11 locations you and your dog can enjoy the countryside and the hospitality.

1. De Roestelberg - Kaatsheuvel

Sand plains, forests and endless walking routes: the Loon and Drunen Dunes are also known as the ‘Brabant Sahara’. It is the perfect spot for walking with your dog. On the outskirts of this exceptional national park, you will find De Roestelberg, a welcoming and hospitable family business where dogs are more than welcome. A bowl of water will be waiting, and dog biscuits are available inside. Five dogs are allowed per group, as long as they don’t cause a nuisance to other guests.

There are plenty of tasty treats for dog owners too. There’s a wide selection of beers, traditional pancakes and delicious bar snacks.

2. Brouwcafé Kareltje - Vestingstad Heusden

After a walk over the fortress walls and along the harbour in Heusden, there is no better place to take a break than Brouwcafé Kareltje. The café was named after the owner’s faithful four-legged friend, so it won’t surprise you that dogs are more than welcome here. In fact, they have even compiled a special dog menu for your furry friend!

Sample one of the self-brewed beers, Dutch jenevers or homemade liqueurs and enjoy a relaxing break during your day in Heusden.

3. Restaurant Speijck - Oisterwijk

Restaurant Speijck is on the edge of the Oisterwijk Forests and a charming spot for both people and their pets. Dogs are warmly welcome here, both on the large terrace and inside the lovely restaurant. While you enjoy all the surrounding greenery and choose something tasty from the extensive menu or generously filled platter of snacks to enjoy with your drink, dog snacks are ready and waiting for your furry friend.

With a children’s playground, Speijck is an ideal spot to relax and unwind with the whole family (including your dog!) after your forest walk.

4. De Boschwachter - Breda

With a ‘wet nose bar’ and a special menu for dogs filled with natural snacks, it’s pretty obvious that dogs are more than welcome at De Boschwachter. You will find this charming grand café right on the edge of the Mastbos in Breda. It’s the perfect place to sit down and relax after a walk in the forest.

Enjoy the terrace or head inside the lovely grand café for lunch, dinner, drinks or a good cup of coffee, while your dog enjoys a treat from the special dog menu.

5. IJM Strandhuys - Vught

Want to walk through the countryside, sunbathe by the water and then relax on a lovely terrace with your dog? You can do it all at IJM Strandhuys beach bar at the IJzeren Man Treetop Adventure Park in Vught. This unique spot is in the heart of natural green surroundings and ideal for a wonderful day out together.

Your dog is also welcome on the paved terrace, provided they are kept on a lead. During the winter season, from 3 October to 31 March, you can take your dog to Strandbad (beach and lake)! During a walk around the IJzeren Man, your dog can go swimming outside the park. Dogs are not allowed to swim at Strandbad.

6. De Keizer - Eersel

After a walk around Nature Gate TerSpegelt, where dogs can run and play to their heart’s content, you can grab a table at De Keizer Eten & Drinken and enjoy coffee and apple pie or a hearty lunch with your dog. Dogs are welcome on the terrace, the veranda and in the conservatory.

The kitchen works with local produce and responsibly sourced ingredients. Enjoy delicious meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, many of which are prepared on the characteristic Josper charcoal grill.

How about a relaxing day out with your faithful four-legged friend? Villa Heidetuin is on the edge of Landgoed Lievensberg and the Brabantse Wal (or Brabant Ridge). You can walk through forests and heathlands for hours on end in this stunning nature area.

Afterwards, grab a seat on the lovely terrace for breakfast, lunch, high tea, a picnic or drinks. Dogs are welcome on the terrace and inside, outside of lunch hours. There is even a special dog bar waiting for your four-legged friend.

8. Brasserie Woods - Oosterhout

Take your dog along for a lovely drink, lunch or dinner at Brasserie Woods. The name of this charming brasserie says it all; it is set in wooded surroundings on the outskirts of Oosterhout, right by the Vrachelse Heide, a former heathland and drifting sand area. While you enjoy the large and welcoming terrace, your children can play in the nearby playground.

Dogs are welcome both inside and outside on the terrace (except in the playground). There is always a bowl of refreshing water ready for your four-legged friend.

9. Boscafé van Moorsel - Lierop

Want to see your dog shine on Instagram? It’s more likely than you might think at Boscafé Van Moorsel in Lierop. Dogs are treated as special guests and regularly feature in the Instagram highlight ‘Knapperd van de dag’ (‘Cutie of the day’).

You will find this charming forest café surrounded by greenery on the outskirts of the vast Strabrechtse Heide heathland. After a walk through the countryside, you can grab a table for coffee, lunch, drinks or dinner. Dogs are welcome on the terrace and inside by the lovely fireplace.

10. De Menmoerhoeve - Etten-Leur

Want to enjoy a day outdoors with your dog? There is plenty to explore at De Menmoerhoeve in Etten-Leur. Dogs are more than welcome, provided they are kept on a lead. Wander through the orchard, admire the butterfly garden, meet the animals on the farmyard or walk through Van Gogh's Experience Garden and the surrounding countryside.

When it comes to cuisine, you’re in the right place. The restaurant works with as much produce from its own garden and its own cattle as possible. And if you would like to enjoy the Brabant countryside for longer, dogs are warmly welcome at the campsite.

11. Parkpaviljoen Philips de Jongh - Eindhoven

Both dogs and their owners will find something tasty on the menu at Parkpaviljoen Philips de Jongh in Eindhoven. While you relax with a cup of coffee and a pastry, your four-legged friend can enjoy a ‘puppuccino’ with a chew stick.

You will find this lovely spot, an oasis of peace, on the outskirts of the city, amid the greenery of Landgoed De Wielewaal, a country estate. On sunny days, you can make the most of it with a picnic in the park. What could be nicer than relaxing on a blanket amid the greenery? Or you could grab a table on the spacious terrace and enjoy a relaxing break together.
