While walking, become acquainted with the life and work of the Brabant monks and nuns – then and now. Brabant Monastery Trail takes you past around fifty-five monasteries and abbeys in North Brabant in various stages. The total length of the trail is 330 kilometres, but there are also beautiful trails marked out around various monasteries.

Kloosterhotel Zin
In 1902, the Brothers of Tilburg purchased Huize Steenwijk at Boxtelseweg 58-60 in Vught to establish a retirement home for elderly and infirm brothers. The house dates back to 1840.

Zegenwerp Estate
The Zegenwerp Estate is first mentioned in 1306. It is a fief of Oud-Herlaer, a place we will visit later in this stage. The lords of Zegenwerp held the fishing rights to a section of the Dommel River.
The Old Tower
The tower originally belonged to a Gothic brick church, built in the mid-15th century on a site where a wooden church (10th century) and later a tuff stone church (around 1100) had previously stood.
Roman Catholic Institute for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Martinus van Beek (b. 1790), the son of a farmer, became a curate in Gemert in 1821, a teacher at the Latin School a year later, and principal of that school in 1825.
Nieuw Herlaer Castle
The complex has been a national monument since 1973, and the current buildings date largely from the nineteenth century, when they were constructed as a monastery and almshouse.
Haanwijk Estate
Haanwijk Estate is near the spot where the River Essche Stroom flows into the Dommel.
Oud Herlaer
Oud-Herlaer was a castle. Herlaer Castle came to be known as Oud-Herlaer when a new castle, Nieuw-Herlaer, was built one kilometer upstream.
