The name ‘zandkant’, Dutch for ‘sandy side’, says it all: this charming farm campsite is literally on the outskirts of the unique shifting sand area of the Loon and Drunen Dunes National Park. It’s no surprise then that some guests even bring their horse with them on holiday here, as they can stay in the on-site boarding stables. The Royal Dutch Touring Club (ANWB) has rated it as a wonderful campsite due to its excellent peace and quiet, countryside, privacy and toilet and washing facilities. From here, you can walk, ride or cycle into the dunes within ten seconds. And you’ll leave with a fully charged battery, as the campsite has a charging station for electric bikes.

As well as an authentic farm experience, peace and relaxation, the hospitality is what really stands out here. ‘We’ve just got back from a short stay at Camping de Zandkant. When we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and given a tour by Anja. We had our two horses with us; they stayed in the stables and were given their own pasture. It’s a lovely and friendly campsite for nature lovers,’ reads one of the many online reviews. The campsite also offers a wooden camping bungalow (for up to five people) and a fully furnished two-person holiday home if you are looking for a bit more luxury.
Tip for your visit: also visit the farm shop!
As well as horses, you’ll also find cows and goats at the farm. The cows’ meat is even available to buy at the farm shop. You can’t get closer to the source than this! However, most visitors come to De Zandkant for the stunning natural surroundings, with many hiking, cycling and horse-riding options. Jan and Anja will be more than happy to tell you all about the most beautiful and/or the most challenging routes, as well as about how you can easily reach the fortified town of Heusden or the historic centre of ’s-Hertogenbosch.
