The most beautiful paths emerge in the varied countryside and before you know it you will be walking over a wooden walkway, winding through the countryside. We have compiled a list for you of the most beautiful nature areas with wooden walkways.

1. De Moerputten

De Moerputten nature reserve is west of 's-Hertogenbosch. It is a marsh area where they used to extract peat. The Bruggenroute (bridge route) takes you over the most beautiful wooden walkways through the Brabant jungle.

On this walking route, you also go over the impressive Moerputtenbrug, which used to serve as a railway bridge. The 600-metre railway bridge is a stunning example of industrial heritage from the 19th century.

The Huis ter Heide Estate is near Tilburg. It is a real hidden gem. Not only can you take wonderful walks here but, depending on the season, you can also spot many species of birds and you could find yourself standing face to face with Highland cattle.

It is a wetland area, where the 250-metre wooden walkway ensures you can get to the other side with dry feet. All you have to do is follow the network of junctions on the Huis ter Heide walking route. Enjoy the views and let the chirping birds, sound of frogs and colourful dragonflies charm you.

The Cartierheide in Brabant’s Kempen region, near Eersel, is a stunning heathland with beautiful fens. The idyllic Dalems Stroompjen (stream) flows through the area. On the Cartierheide TOP scenic route walk you will spot all kinds of animal species and you will feel like you are the only person in the world. 

From the wooden walkway, you look out over the heath, which is in bloom and coloured purple from mid-August to mid-September. Start the route at TerSpegelt in Eersel, which besides being a Nature Gate, is also a lovely recreational park.

4. Strabrechtse Heide

In Heeze, close to Eindhoven, you will find another impressive heathland area: the Strabrechtse Heide, part of De Groote Heide Nature Border Park. It is a vast heathland with stunning views and the largest fen in the Netherlands: The Beuven.

Walk over the wooden walkway in the heath garden with its two islands and let the silence captivate you. This walk is also suitable for wheelchair users. Who knows, you may even bump into the shepherd with his flock and inseparable sheepdog! Start your walk at Heidecafé de Strabrechtse Heide.

5. Mastbos

You will find the Mastbos on the southern fringes of Breda. No matter in which season you visit this centuries-old forest, it is a magical sight. Surrounded by 500-year-old trees, you can enjoy the penetrating rays of sun, falling leaves and wintery scenes in peace and quiet here.   

There are various routes marked out, which are also highly suitable for children, such as this TOP Scenic Route and a special nature experience route where you walk over a wooden walkway and arrive at a lovely observation point.

De Groote Peel National Park is on the border of North Brabant and Limburg. It is a genuine paradise for nature lovers. In this marshland area, wooden walkways and log bridges are not an unnecessary luxury if you want to keep your feet dry.  

The area is an internationally acknowledged wetland and is of immense importance to various species of marsh and wetland birds. It a varied nature reserve with peatlands, heath, forests, sand ridges and fens. The Knuppelbrug walking route starts at the outdoor centre, Buitencentrum De Pelen.
