In search of Vincent’s inspiration
The Van Gogh cycle route starts at Het Noordbrabants Museum. This museum has a collection of artefacts and works of art which have some connection with the art, history and culture of the province of North Brabant and the Southern Netherlands. You will come face to face with genuine Van Gogh paintings in a special pavilion. That’s definitely worth a visit! Cycle from culture to nature; this route will take you mainly through the beautiful countryside on the south of the provincial capital. Just like cycling through a painting.
The Noordbrabants Museum forms part of a beautiful, classical old governmental palace in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. Ten paintings by Vincent van Gogh are on display in the museum. They tell the story of the artist’s Brabant origins and his great fascination for peasant life.
Between junctions 84 and 63 you cycle through the Bossche Broek nature reserve. This comprises mostly grass wetlands with unusual plants. The nature reserve is a paradise for meadow, marsh and water birds, and is typical of the type of landscape that inspired Van Gogh.
You can divert a few hundred metres from your route at junction 53 to look at the ‘Van Gogh Mural’. This six metre high mural by the Brabant artist Eric van Boxtel focusses on Van Gogh’s social environment. The mural is located in the Sint Lucasstraat.

The Van Gogh cycle route forms part of the cycle route network in Brabant. There is a Van Gogh cycle route sign at every intersection. Follow the Van Gogh cycle route signs from one numbered intersection to the other. Follow the cycle route network signs between the intersections. Ten short routes in the form of loops have been marked out. The routes are joined together by linking sections.

Information Point Visit Den Bosch
At Markt 77, the Moriaan was built in the early 13th century by order of Duke Hendrik of Brabant. Today, this house is known as the oldest brick house in ’s-Hertogenbosch and is home to the Information Point Visit Den Bosch.
