The Milheeze stretch passes through a small area of woodland to the east of Milheeze itself, surrounded by fields and farmland. The route also passes De Peel military airfield. It’s a truly unique route thanks to its playful character and relatively unchanging elevation – those changes that are there can be traced back to the last ice age! Although the ice caps never managed to reach the Netherlands, the area was home to a polar desert where the wind had free rein to do as it chose. That wind created cover sand ridges, which were later planted with pine trees for mining operations in southern Limburg. Another part of the area is home to mixed woodland, with a lowland section in the middle. The route is especially popular with younger mountain bikers for its range of technical challenges, which include jump lines, bridges, bowl turns, root sections and rollers.
