While walking, become acquainted with the life and work of the Brabant monks and nuns – then and now. Brabant Monastery Trail takes you past around fifty-five monasteries and abbeys in North Brabant in various stages. The total length of the trail is 330 kilometres, but there are also beautiful trails marked out around various monasteries.

Kloosterhotel Zin
In 1902, the Brothers of Tilburg purchased Huize Steenwijk at Boxtelseweg 58-60 in Vught to establish a retirement home for elderly and infirm brothers. The house dates back to 1840.

Voorburg Estate and Villa
Part of the walking tour passes through the Voorburg Estate. The Voorburg Estate was purchased in 1884 by the Reinier van Arkel Foundation and is still part of the Reinier van Arkel Group.
Former monastery
The former monastery, now known as Klimop, dates back to 1932. Male religious lived here until 1993.
Jozef Building
Until the mid-1970s, the building (1982) housed a ward for female patients.
Former Convent
The former convent (now Vijverhof) was built in 1928 to address the poor health of the nuns, who had been living in the attics of the main building, which has since been demolished.
Vught Cemetery
The cemetery, which has been in use by the hospital since 1885, is well worth a visit. The last burial took place on December 31, 1983.
Bell Tower
This bell tower is the top of the tower of the chapel of the former main building of Huize Voorburg. The carillon plays on the hour.
Mariaoord
The Ursulines from Uden settled in Villa Roucouleur in 1899. A teacher-training program was established, and the students moved in with the sisters.
Former St. Peter’s Church
This Neo-Romanesque three-nave cruciform basilica, designed by architect Charles Weber in 1884, has recently been fully restored and repurposed, and attracts 200,000 visitors annually.
Zionsburg
The Commandery of the Teutonic Order was based here from the 13th to the 16th century. Zionsburg Manor was built in the 17th century. It burned down in 2003.
St. Mary’s Church, Mariaplein, and Mariënhof
The Mariënhof convent and retirement home, the church, the school, the parish hall, and the houses on the square and on Deken van Oss Street were designed by architect Alexander Kropholler (1881–1973).
Oud Herlaer
Oud-Herlaer was a castle. Herlaer Castle came to be known as Oud-Herlaer when a new castle, Nieuw-Herlaer, was built one kilometer upstream.
Haanwijk Estate
Haanwijk Estate is near the spot where the River Essche Stroom flows into the Dommel.
Nieuw Herlaer Castle
The complex has been a national monument since 1973, and the current buildings date largely from the nineteenth century, when they were constructed as a monastery and almshouse.
Huize Bergen Estate
Hidden away in beautiful parkland, the Huize Bergen Estate is housed in a listed country villa dating from 1916. You can enjoy contemporary comfort with the homely ambiance of days gone by among centuries old trees on this seven hectare park.
