Countryside, forts and fantasy in the westernmost part of North Brabant

A world filled with magic awaits in the midst of the countryside of Kalmthout Heath National Park, along the Belgian border. Using the Tovertuin (Magic Garden) Family Resort as a base, children can plunge into the wonderful world of their doggy friends Woezel and Pip. Just outside the park, there are forts, gnome paths and cool playgrounds that provide opportunities for exploration, with nature always taking centre stage. Enjoy a weekend away in the westernmost part of North Brabant, where together with your kids you can explore, play, relax and be amazed.

Day 1. Welcome to the Tovertuin

Ready for an adventure? Once you arrive at Hoogerheide, go and explore the Tovertuin Adventure Park before checking in. You may have watched Woezel and Pip videos on the way to get you in the mood. The doggy friends theme park is located right next to the family resort and has more than 25 attractions for children up to 10 years old. The Tovertuin Friends Parade starts every afternoon at 15:30, when Woezel, Pip and their friends travel through the Adventure Park with floats and music – a festive start!

If you would rather save the Adventure Park for tomorrow, the Tovertuin also has an indoor swimming pool with an aquatic park for the littlest ones.

Dream away after a day of play

Dream away after a day of play

Have you chosen to stay in a lodge, holiday home or villa? All accommodation in the Tovertuin Family Resort allows the kids to dream sweet dreams in a themed Woezel and Pip cottage. If travelling with a motorhome, you are welcome in the illuminated fairy-tale forest. Enjoy this evening in the comfort of your accommodation or usher the weekend in with a meal in the family bistro. Woezel and Pip just might come to your table for a hug and a photo!

Day 2. Come on, let’s go outside! - A trip through the Adventure Park

Take time today to take a trip together through the Adventure Park. At each spot, there is a new story to enter. Venture through the maze, go gliding or sail past singing animals and ringing flowers. On the way, children learn all about plants, animals and the seasons. They can even go home with a nature friends certificate. Be sure to stop by the covered Woezel and Pip Theatre, where children can sing along and dance to their heart’s content!

Romping about and eating pancakes in Roosendaal

Just a short distance from the Tovertuin Family Resort there are numerous inviting excursions for adventures outside of the park as well. For example, the outdoor playground Vrouwenhof in Roosendaal. Children of all ages can play and explore here endlessly. If the weather is nice, the aquatic park is a good place to romp about. All done playing? Find a seat at the large terrace of Pannenkoekenrestaurant Vrouwenhof to end your day.

Day 3. Cool adventures on the Brabantse Wal

It’s time to wave goodbye to the Tovertuin Family Resort. The children may want a last visit to an attraction or a last dive in the swimming pool. But the adventure is not over yet! This weekend you are also close to the Brabantse Wal (Brabant Ridge), an extraordinary area where higher sandy ground suddenly transforms into polders and water. This natural variation makes it a landscape full of natural fun.

Fort de Roovere

  • Twee kinderen op uitkijktoren Fort de Roovere
  • Man met kindje op de Mozesbrug bij Bergen op Zoom

Fort de Roovere is only 15 minutes from the holiday park. As part of the Zuiderwaterlinie, it’s a wonderful place to enjoy a leisurely stroll. Be sure to check out the world-famous Moses bridge – the only bridge where you can walk through the water while your feet stay dry! A little further on is the impressive Pompejus observation tower. Dare you climb the 129 steps for a view from 25 metres up in the air?

Gnome path for small explorers

  • Twee jongens staan op een plateau hoog aan de boom, klaar voor het vervolgen van de klauter-route

From the fort, it’s only a 10-minute drive to the forests of Bergen op Zoom. At the Nature Stage of Brabantse Wal, the littlest ones receive a knapsack to follow the gnome path. The knapsack contains instruction cards and objects for fun nature games. This is a true journey of exploration where children are challenged to look, listen and feel while travelling through the woods.

For children 6 years and older, there are even bigger adventures right next to the gnome path in the Bergen op Zoom Treetop Adventure Park. Daredevils can climb and swing along various routes between treetops.

More time to spend in North Brabant?

  • Waterspeelpark Splesj in Hoeven
  • Willemstad straatje

There are plenty more fun things to do in the surrounding area. In hot weather, you can cool down and have endless fun in water in SPLESJ Water Play Park in Hoeven. If your children can’t get enough of airplanes, at Vliegend Museum Seppe (Seppe Aviation Museum) in Bosschenhoofd even the littlest ones can marvel at the historic aircraft and discover what it is like to sit in the cockpit as a pilot. Small and big culture lovers choose the 9 Marvels of Oudenbosch walking route and climb the dome in the Basilica of Oudenbosch for the best view of this impressive 1:16 scale model of St Peter's Basilica in Rome. The fortified city of Willemstad is not far away from, among others, Fort Sabina, where you can eat under the arches of the barracks in Brasserie de Kletsmajoor, with a menu that matches the theme in its entirety.
