Jointly with pianist Jeroen van Veen and percussionist Tatiana Koleva, viola player Esther Apituley is playing 'Philip Glass; Songs & Poems, Tissues & Issues'. A concert that is about more than music. Poems by the likes of Lieke Marsman and Ellen Deckwitz (read: Issues in the title) are brought to life with Philips Glass’ compositions, an ingenious lighting plan and the movements of the musicians. Either the lyrics, lighting and choreography are in sync with the music, or they contrast with one another. This allows the musicians to reach a deeper layer. They have an accessible way of letting the audience experience Glass's music in an ever-changing ambiance.

The concert also includes a world premiere: for the first time, Glass is played on viola! The composer personally gave Apituley permission to arrange 'Songs & Poems' (originally written for cello) for this instrument.

Credits:
Concept, viola, actress: Esther Apituley
Percussion, performance: Tatiana Koleva
Piano, performance: Jeroen van Veen
Music: Philip Glass
Voiced poems: Esther Apituley and Charlie Chan Dagelet
