Koyaanisqatsi is the first film in director Godfrey Reggio's Qatsi trilogy, for which the film score was composed by Philip Glass. Tonight, the Philip Glass Ensemble, founded by Glass himself, performs the film's soundtrack live alongside the movie. Koyaanisqatsi is renowned for its groundbreaking use of time-lapse photography and slow-motion techniques to depict the frenetic pace of modern life and its impact on the natural world. Glass' music for the film is considered one of the great masterpieces of the 1980s, an expansive minimalist work featuring synthesizers, deep male voices, and brass instruments.

Koyaanisqatsi invites viewers to contemplate subjects such as technology, environmental pollution, consumer behavior, and the human experience, while illustrating the consequences of industrial expansion on our relationship with nature. The visuals are accompanied by the impressive soundtrack by Philip Glass.

The American composer Philip Glass is one of the most influential composers of the twentieth century. He is often considered the pioneer of minimal music, although he prefers to describe it as "music with a repetitive structure". His body of work encompasses a wide range of genres, including operas, symphonies, musicals, chamber music, string quartets, film soundtracks, pop music, and even TV jingles, all imbued with his distinctive Glassian sound. Glass himself will not be present at this concert, but the Philip Glass Ensemble is regarded by the composer as "the most authentic interpretation of his music". Witnessing a concert by the Philip Glass Ensemble live is an experience you will never forget!
