History
A watermill must have stood on the site of the current mill building even before 1320. This mill belonged to Ten Berg Castle, owned by the Lords of Oirschot.
The current stone mill building dates from 1868.
In 1844, the mill was leased to the Van Esch family, who became owners in 1900 and remain so today.
The watermill
The mill runs entirely on water power from the Beerze River. It has two waterwheels. One waterwheel was used for an oil mill, which processed linseed into linseed oil; today, this waterwheel is used to generate electricity. The second waterwheel still serves its original function, grinding grain into flour using water power. The mills are driven by wooden gears. The mill still contains authentic elements dating back to 1320. When the water level allows, the mill still grinds grain in the same way as it did centuries ago.
