One of the most famous spots in Etten-Leur is the Moeierboom on the Markt. The Moeierboom is a large-leaved linden tree (Tilia platyphyllos). The tree does not have the typical shape of a linden tree; given its age, it should be 20 meters tall. The tree likely lost its top due to a lightning strike or a storm. Because of its age, the heavy branches are supported by an iron frame. Thanks to consistent care and ‘bonsai-style’ pruning, the tree has always retained its distinctive crown shape.

In Etten-Leur, there are approximately 1,350 linden trees of various species. Their heart-shaped leaves symbolize love, their blossoms fertility and tranquility. The oldest linden tree stands on the Markt, the Moeierboom. The tree was planted over 345 years ago. It was planted on the site where justice was administered in the Middle Ages—a place where criminals were convicted and the innocent were acquitted.
