Traditional crafts museum De Looierij is located in a stunning national monument in Dongen in Brabant. The registered museum is actually housed in a former tannery and is run exclusively by volunteers. That means that you are enthusiastically and hospitably welcomed here five days a week in a more than friendly atmosphere. Here, you can learn all about tanning in the region of Dongen in the 18th and 19th centuries. Furthermore, De Looierij also shows a historical collection about the village, plus several temporary exhibitions throughout the year.
Come and experience how a previous visitor discovered ‘A wealth of materials and stories’. It is also very convenient if you want to spend a day in Dongen. The enthusiastic team will be more than happy – on request – to compile a complete ‘Dongen programme’ for you.

Wednesday to Sunday afternoon
Visit our exhibitions individually with a (free) audio guide or QR route or book a guided tour or walk as a group. At a leather workshop, you can literally roll up your sleeves, while you can enjoy a drink and snack in the lovely museum café or on the patio. De Looierij is open from Wednesday to Sunday from 13:00 to 17:00.
If you would like a filled day, then combine a visit with the many recreational options in Dongen. Go back even further in time in the IJzertijdboerderij (Ice Age Farm) or go and play with the children at Pukkemuk (recreational park). If you would like even more creativity beside a leather workshop, then go for a morning or afternoon at 2Handjes (creative workshops).
Dongen and surrounding area
Dongen is situated in lovely, natural green surroundings which you can explore by foot or by bike. The museum staff will be more than happy to give you tips and has various (local) contacts. Thematically, a visit to the Shoe Quarter in Waalwijk fits in perfectly, but De Looierij also welcomes many cycling tourists. It’s a great place to stop off during a tour through and past the stunning Loon and Drunen Dunes National Park.
