The fourteenth century Helmond Castle and the modern Kunsthal (art gallery) provide Museum Helmond with two unique and very different museum locations. Both are conveniently located in the centre of the town. A visit to the museum is therefore a perfect combination to a stay in the fifth largest town in Brabant, renowned for its past connections with the metal and textile industries. The museum has three unique collections,  Stadshistorie, (History of the Town), Mens en Werk (People and their Work) and Moderne en Hedendaagse kunst (Modern and Contemporary Art), where the people behind the art always have a central role.

Helmond Castle
You will meet castle residents from previous centuries and relive their stories in this castle, which also has the largest moat of any castle the Netherlands. How was the castle built, how was it used during wartime and how did its residents live? You can learn everything about this beautiful medieval castle but also about the lifestyle of a successive line of noblemen who lived there. Highlights from the History of the Town collection can be found here, together with an annually changing exhibition. Children will not be short of things to do during the summer activities, where they can dress up as princes or knights or play various castle games and explore new places.

The Kunsthal
The Kunsthal is part of the Boscotondo complex, so called because of the circular form in which the architect Adolfo Natalini built the houses and gallery, with a tree-lined central court. Boscotondo is in fact Italian for ‘circular forest’. The Kunsthal is conspicuous on the outside by its tall cylindrical entrance with an unusual bronze canopy. You can enjoy photographic and art exhibitions inside.

Beautiful combination
Museum Helmond offers a combination of past and present, both in its locations and its collections. All gallery texts are in English and Dutch and guided tours are given in English, Dutch and German (with other languages available on request). Not only lovers of art and cultural heritage, but also families can enjoy this appealing museum to the full.
