The original six residences of these “barracks” were erected in 1871. In 1888, the two residences on the left were constructed. They were home to the customs officers of the cyclist brigade and their families. The neighbourhood of the border station and the border crossing with Valkenswaard became the playground of smugglers and customhouse officers.
