Liesbos
A beautiful forest south of Prinsenbeek in the municipality of Breda.
The Liesbos is the largest old English oak forest in the Netherlands. It is located south of Prinsenbeek, between the Roosendaal-Breda railway line and the A58 highway, and across from the hamlet of Lies. The forest covers over 200 hectares. A distinctive feature are the monumental avenues, laid out for the hunting of the former noble owners to allow their hunting carriages to move quickly and comfortably.
A special feature is “the loop,” also known as Hemeltje, with a large, old sycamore surrounded by beech trees, some of which have fallen. The sycamore is used as a “fever tree” or “patch tree.”
