Lieutenant Cole led his battalion on 11 June 1944.
Lieutenant Cole led his battalion on 11 June 1944. When his unit came under enemy fire, he led the unit through a hail of bullets across open ground to the enemy lines. He survived this attack but was killed in Operation Market Garden in the town of Best on 18 September 1944 when he was shot dead by a German sniper.
