This Brabant cultural heritage with brasserie is possibly the most striking destination in West Brabant. At a unique location hidden along the shores of Volkerak Lake, you will find one of the best-preserved defensive works from the 19th century. But what is equally striking about this impressive part of the Zuiderwaterlinie and the Fortifications of Willemstad: the huge range of cultural and natural events. There are historic events, such as Operation Rebound, the informative Nature Lab (where young researchers can have the time of their lives), or the opportunity to spot birds of prey and bats. You could also simply enjoy yourself on the terrace, where wonderful concerts are also held. Or, during the lecture series ‘Writers speak’, listen to the best literary talents ...
- Largest virtually intact fort in North Brabant;
- Visit Napoleon’s Tour Modèle;
- Also fun for company outings and family parties.

The tour guides at Fort Sabina would love to welcome you and tell you all about the history of the fort. And that welcome is especially warm, as attested to by this comment by a previous visitor: “Dear members of Fort Team Sabine, you are SUPER. Thank you ever so much.” There is a great deal to tell about the history: from dry moats and defensive structures to high-explosive shells in a powder magazine as well as a heroic Canadian soldier from the Second World War, about the horrifying flood of 1953 to the construction of the tower by Spanish prisoners of war – many impressive stories have taken place around the fort.
A tip for your visit: explore other places in the Fortifications of Willemstad as well. There is the Mauritshuis, Fort De Hel and Fort de Roovere, and fortified cities like Steenbergen, Bergen op Zoom and Klundert. Also highly recommended is a walk along the walls of Willemstad. In any case, given the large number of cycle routes, this entire area is wonderful for exploring without requiring any type of motor.
