Nature reserve De Maashorst
The forest you walk thru was around 1915 a large heathland with many wet hollows: low-lying, moist areas. Especially in the winter, a large part was underwater and there was plenty of ice skating.
The forest you walk thru was around 1915 a large heathland with many wet hollows: low-lying, moist areas. Especially in the winter, a large part was underwater and there was plenty of ice skating. After the demolition of the refugee camp, the hollows were drained, and in 1923, reforestation of the area began. Tree species such as Scots pine, Douglas fir, Norway spruce, and beech were planted. The forest is now part of the nature reserve De Maashorst.
