Chosen several times as the most fun (family) outing in North Brabant, this live outdoor museum in Gemert offers an amazing experience for both young and old. The authentically furnished farm (with live, very cuddly animals), the charming village square with craft houses and small farmhouses, a country school and several working mills or shops make you think you are in the Brabant countryside in 1900. Set up near the birthplace of Father van den Elsen, founder of various Dutch corporations, the Boerenbondsmuseum (Agricultural Museum) is literally located on the spot where cooperative ideas began.
Discover how farmers in North Brabant lived. Learn, for example, how butter and cheese were made. Or, as another visitor put it: “Lots of fun for all ages with old-fashioned charm!”

Accessible and surprising
Thematic activities are organised every Sunday during the museum season (from March up to and including November). There is a historic parade in spring, a landscape, herb and nature market at Whitsun, the nostalgic fun fair in July, the day of harvest in August and threshing day in October. During the Winter Square Festival, you can go ice skating. It is also possible to attend the regular demonstrations that show you the ancient farming craft and where the most delicious bread is baked. The low entry fee and catering prices mean that the museum is accessible to all.
More than 200 volunteers
In addition to families with (young) children, the Boerenbondsmuseum also welcomes many senior citizens and people above 55 years of age. There is always a package available suitable for groups of more than ten people, making the Boerenbondsmuseum ideal for family outings and staff parties as well. For example, have a complete programme set up, with coffee and cake, a tour, a light Brabant lunch and a surprise activity. Or go on a covered-wagon ride, a tour on the steam tram ‘De Goede Moordenaar’ (The Good Murderer) or play one of the many old Dutch games. All activities are peppered with the familiar Brabant good-naturedness, organised by a hospitable team of no fewer than 200 volunteers.
Due to its location along various cycling routes and walking tours, it fits in perfectly with a stay of several days in North Brabant.
