During Dutch Design Week 2026, COVA presents S(P)OIL, a solo exhibition by Martin Kačmarek. Having grown up on his family’s farm in Slovakia, the artist weaves together rural life, manual labor, and digital culture in his paintings.
During Dutch Design Week 2026, COVA presents S(P)OIL, a solo exhibition by Martin Kačmarek. Having grown up on his family’s farm in Slovakia, the artist weaves together rural life, manual labor, and digital culture in his paintings. Agriculture, gaming, and contemporary alienation converge in images that feel simultaneously familiar and strange. The exhibition approaches making and repairing as potential forms of resistance against speed, automation, and the growing detachment from physical experience. Without idealizing rural life, Kačmarek reveals its contradictions, changes, and tensions, as well as the relationship between body, material, and technology.
