Sjostakovitsj 11 én Liya Petrova
To mark the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich's death, Philzuid presents one of his greatest works: his Symphony No. 11, which translates the Russian Revolution of 1905 into music. His composition is imbued with tension, raw emotion, and sharp contrasts.
To mark the 50th anniversary of Dmitri Shostakovich's death, Philzuid presents one of his greatest works: his Symphony No. 11, which translates the Russian Revolution of 1905 into music. His composition is imbued with tension, raw emotion, and sharp contrasts. Whispering strings and ominous silences build to dramatic outbursts, in which fear, hope, and struggle alternate. Under the baton of star conductor Martyn Brabbins, Philzuid brings this captivating symphonic musical document to life. The concert opens with a delightfully lyrical work by Ukrainian composer Fyodor Akimenko, before Liya Petrova dedicates herself to the fiendishly difficult Carl Nielsen Violin Concerto, her favorite piece. In 2016, she won the Carl Nielsen International Violin Competition with it. The jury was blown away by her rendition of Nielsen's Violin Concerto. "She has made the concerto completely her own."
