May I Die – Freedom Theatre
A compelling play about autonomy, psychological suffering, and self-determination
For as long as I've existed, I've met people with a deep longing for eternal life, or rather, an endless earthly existence. Hoping they would infect me with their unbridled zest for life, I've sought them out again and again.
"If I May Die May Be," is the story of Fransien, a brave woman who, after a life of psychological suffering, yearns for a dignified end. The play poses poignant and timely questions about freedom of choice, autonomy, and the right to self-determination—and about the consequences of such choices for those left behind. The performance touches on social taboos and dilemmas, but does so with openness, humanity, and intense theatrical performance.
Space for reflection in the post-performance discussions by Paul Rotschke of the Michelson Foundation.
Since its reopening in September, Freedom Theatre has become a vibrant and accessible hub in Eindhoven's theatre landscape. An affordable meeting place for cultural exchange, training, rehearsals, and performances—from amateur art to professional productions.
