The musical passion story especially for seniors in Eindhoven and the surrounding area

In recent years, "The Passion" has been performed on Maundy Thursday somewhere in a major Dutch city. It receives extensive television coverage. The story of Christ's suffering still commands a great deal of attention, even though fewer and fewer people are religious and many churches are forced to close due to a lack of churchgoers.

"The Passion" is a variation on the various Passions that have been written. The best-known Passions are Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John and St. Matthew Passions. This year, the Kempisch Chamber Choir will perform the St. John Passion for the fourteenth time on Good Friday in the church of Eersel.

However, many elderly people prefer to stay home in the evenings. To give them the opportunity to experience the St. John Passion, the Kempisch Chamber Choir is organizing a special performance for seniors from Eindhoven.
It is a shortened and adapted version of J.S. Bach's St. John Passion.
This special senior performance is a blend of storytelling and original choral works from the St. John Passion.

The narrator tells the Passion story in a moving way. Judas betraying Jesus, Peter denying Him, Pontius Pilate washing his hands of his guilt, the soldiers gambling for his clothes, and the crucifixion are story elements that many older audiences will surely recognize. The choir is accompanied by a professional pianist. The entire performance is under the inspiring direction of conductor Cees Wouters.
