Green Café: Eva Meijer on Mouse Life

During this Green Café, Eva Meijer will talk about her book *Muizenleven* (Mouse Life), in which she describes her experiences with four former laboratory mice that came to live with her. By observing and living with them, Meijer shows that mice are complex, social creatures with character, relationships, and grief — very different from the image of ‘pest’ that often prevails.

In *Muizenleven*, Meijer combines animal philosophy and personal stories, in which the mice themselves have their say through texts, photos, and drawings. The book invites us to look differently at animals, living together, and our place in a more-than-human world. Eva Meijer won the Nature Book Prize in 2025 with *Muizenleven*.
