In her work, Hemaseh becomes a storyteller. She uses colorful fabrics with prints and textures to create a personal, symbolic visual language. In this, stories from her family, childhood memories and traditions are closely interwoven.
Her textile works feel like poetic puzzle pieces: fragmentary, intimate and full of meaning. They form a bridge between the West, where she lives, and the Middle East, where her roots lie. Through her playful way of telling and imagining, she makes personal situations recognizable and universal.
In her visual language, feelings and experiences become tangible. The images read like diary fragments: sometimes direct, sometimes hidden in layers of decor and symbolism.
With a keen eye for textiles, color and print, she reflects on society, on its beauty and discomfort. In doing so, she explores the boundary between art and craft, between refinement and excess. According to her, rituals such as drinking tea together or doing needlework contain a language that everyone can understand, regardless of origin or background.
The title Comes As No Surprise refers to this layering. It resonates with feelings and situations that, once you recognize them, were actually already there. Nothing really comes as a surprise and yet each work invites you to look, read and feel again.
