History Month 2026 – Lecture by Suzanna Jansen

But what exactly went on behind closed doors, and what was the true cause of their exhaustion? Author and researcher Suzanna Jansen delves into this hidden past to find answers to these forgotten questions.

What began as a quest to uncover her own mother's personal story evolved into an in-depth investigation involving old letters and conversations with surviving family members. The impact of a breakdown proved immense. When a mother was incapacitated, young daughters were often forced to leave school to take over the household, or children even ended up in boarding schools.

During the Month of History, Suzanna Jansen brings this forgotten chapter of history to life. A natural storyteller with a background in journalism and theater, she skillfully connects major societal themes to the lives of ordinary people. She unerringly pinpoints the core issues regarding the historical position and health of women.
