Passionate and romantic love in all its layers is the main theme of this concert, in which the tragedy of struggle and unhappy love is translated musically. Let yourself be carried away to the Paradise Garden, and experience the true happiness of lovers, away from the rest of the world. The deep, personal sound of Elgar's Cello Concerto is serene and beautiful and is played by Joris van den Berg, deputy conductor of the Concertgebouw Orchestra. The orchestral suite Pelléas et Mélisande is a love drama set in the Middle Ages with castles, mist, lakes, caves and dark forests. We conclude the concert with the overture-fantasy Roméo and Juliet based on Shakespeare's play, with the famous love theme of Juliet.

The spring concert is dedicated to the farewell of our current conductor, Quentin Clare. Quentin has been our permanent maestro since January 2017 and the orchestra has made a significant leap in quality under his inspiring and inspiring leadership. In this festive program he says goodbye – with pain in his heart – to our orchestra, which felt “like family” to him.
Traveling back and forth between England and the Netherlands became too difficult for him, and although we respect his decision, we will certainly miss him!
