At a glittering party in 18th-century Paris, poet Andrea Chénier makes a flaming argument against Louis XVI. Five years later, the Revolution has turned to terror, which changes the balance of power between Chénier, his beloved Maddalena, and Gérard, the man who can destroy him... Jonas Kaufmann sings the lead in David McVicar's spectacular performance, under the musical direction by Antonio Pappano, with whom he has collaborated many times. This epic historical drama by Giordano is Pappano's final production as conductor of The Royal Opera.
