Uprising is a new, topical opera by British composer Jonathan Dove that addresses the climate crisis, youth activism, and the challenge of maintaining a dialogue with one another.
At its heart is the story of a mother and daughter who find themselves diametrically opposed. Their clash mirrors a broader societal conflict where different generations and beliefs collide. Featuring five professional soloists and a choir of one hundred community singers, the stage transforms into a microcosm of society, teeming with diverse voices and perspectives. Dove’s expansive, lyrical score gives powerful expression to the story’s turbulence, energy, and emotion. Uprising explores conflict, listening, and coexistence—and what can emerge when, despite our differences, we continue to engage in dialogue.
