Piano Romanticism and fairytale worlds
Romanticist Robert Schumann created some of the most beautiful piano works. His own career as a pianist was shattered by an injury, but he inspired his wife Clara—one of the greatest pianists of her time—to create magnificent performances.
Romanticist Robert Schumann created some of the most beautiful piano works. His own career as a pianist was shattered by an injury, but he inspired his wife Clara—one of the greatest pianists of her time—to create magnificent performances. Together they impressed with refined compositions, in which the interplay between orchestra and piano was always perfectly balanced. During this concert, French pianist Cédric Tiberghien will highlight two lesser-known piano concertos by Schumann. These intimate works demonstrate a subtle, refined approach to sound and melody that demands a delicate balance between orchestra and pianist. Something Duncan Ward is well-equipped to handle. Philzuid also explores the musical legacy of Antonín Dvořák, who found inspiration in Karel Erben's Bohemian folk tales, full of colorful characters and exciting twists.
Under the direction of their chief conductor, Philzuid will perform two of Dvořák's symphonic poems: The Wood Pigeon and The Golden Spinning Wheel. Works full of lively melodies that take you to a fairytale world where the story shines through in every note.
