Music has a unique power to uplift and inspire the human spirit. With his sublime Firebird suite, Igor Stravinsky casts a spell over every listener. Premiered in 1910, this ballet score marked the major breakthrough for the young, daring Stravinsky. The flaming feathers of the mythical Firebird symbolize resurrection and a profound sense of bliss. The tempestuous pulse of Stravinsky’s music leaves no one unmoved. Edward Elgar’s renowned Cello Concerto evokes that same feverish intensity—music of soul-stirring beauty that represents the ultimate pinnacle for any solo cellist. Philzuid has now engaged the Belgian-Israeli cellist Liav Kerbel to bring a fresh, imaginative interpretation to Elgar’s dream score. Kerbel has previously shared the stage with stars such as Mischa Maisky and Maxim Vengerov. Furthermore, Philzuid gives the young Finnish conducting talent Emilia Hoving the opportunity to deliver a passionate rendition of this immortal music.
