Exhibition at Kunstpodium 't Oude Raadhuis by the quilting group 'Door het oog van de naald' (Through the Eye of the Needle).
Quilting is a centuries-old craft and folk art that is still very much alive today. Quilting is practiced throughout the Netherlands, often by women who regularly meet in groups called bees, which stands for collective effort. They help and inspire each other. The togetherness is at least as important as the work itself: quilting connects.
Quilting originally arose from poverty; worn-out clothing and fabric scraps were patched together. This is done in a specific pattern. Together with a batting and backing, it forms a blanket or garment. The process of attaching the different layers is called quilting or quilting. Within this seemingly fixed technique, there is endless room for creativity, and this creativity is on full display at this new exhibition. Dozens of quilts in all shapes, sizes, and colors are on display, each more surprising than the last. It is true needlework art!

The participants' styles range from modern and contemporary to traditional and classic. It is precisely this diversity that makes the exhibition surprising and captivating. In the comfortable classroom of experienced quilter Liesbeth Manders from Aarle-Rixtel, the quilting group "Through the Eye of the Needle" meets biweekly. In addition to work by Liesbeth Manders, this exhibition features work by: Joke Hofman and Mieke Kanters from Beek en Donk, Marie-Louise van Dijk and Annemie van Lieshout from Deurne, Jannie Bloemers from Helmond, and Mieke van Poppel from Eindhoven.
The "Through the Eye of the Needle" exhibition is on display every Saturday and Sunday at Kunstpodium 't Oude Raadhuis. It offers visitors a wonderful glimpse into the versatility and craftsmanship of this unique craft.
