In May 1946, just one year after the liberation of the Netherlands, this War Museum on the former battlefield near Overloon opened its doors. This makes it the oldest museum about the Second World War in Western Europe, and the largest war museum in the Netherlands.  Marvel at the large collection of war vehicles from the unique, three-metre high bicycle bridge through the museum. A large part of this collection was actually used during the Battle of Overloon in September 1944!
Or get off your bike and learn - from both the changing and permanent exhibitions - that there is really only one place for war: a museum.

Surprisingly big
Located next to holiday park Landal De Vers in Northeast Brabant, the museum is aimed mostly at families with children. If you want a weekend away, the War Museum is also ideal to combine with a visit to Zoo Parc Overloon. But do keep the size of the museum park in mind. In the huge military hall you will find more than 150 vehicles; cars, tanks, boats, planes and more. Or as an previous visitor put it: “We hadn’t expected the museum to be so big. Next time we’ll plan to stay a whole day.”

A world first: cycling through the museum
Since September 2019, the War Museum has also been open to cyclists! From the main road you can take a free look at the exhibition via a bicycle bridge. This permanent bridge is part of the cycle route 'On the other side', which connects the museum with British and German military cemeteries nearby. War Museum Overloon is also located in a beautiful walking and cycling area. The museum park is also completely accessible to people in wheelchairs, so that everyone is able to admire this “gigantic military collection”. The exhibitions and presentations are in Dutch, English and German. Overloon is easily accessible via exit 7 on the A73 between Nijmegen and Venlo.

Brabant Bicycle Café
Overloon War Museum is an official Brabants Fietscafé; a Brabant Bicycle Café. In these bicycle cafés, cyclists are made to feel especially welcome! You can stop by for a delicious bite to eat or a refreshing drink, and make use of facilities such as a repair kit, bicycle pump and e-bike charging station.
