The museum (Markt 22a) relates the history of smuggling in the border region between the Netherlands and Belgium. Initially, the majority of smuggling was due to sheer poverty, but later it took on such a major and fierce form that people spoke of organised crime. The museum exposes the side of both the smuggler and customs. Right in the middle of the market is the Schepenhuis (Markt 28). This national monument from the 18th century is the old City Hall of Budel. Today, it is a sweet shop with a lunchroom.
