6 experiences that will make a 2020 holiday in North Brabant even more special!

Be part of the audience and applaud the riders of La Vuelta when they start from historical 's-Hertogenbosch or when they come out of the Grote Kerk church of Breda. Race against your friends in Max & Moritz, the newest double roller coaster for the whole family in Theme Park Efteling, or really take in what 75 years of freedom means with impressive art installations at four war heritage locations...  North Brabant is ahead of the game in 2020 with experiences that belong on everyone's bucket list.

LA VUELTA IN 'S-HERTOGENBOSCH AND BREDA

Normally you watch the Vuelta a España on TV, now you can be there live! In 2020, the 75th edition of the Tour of Spain will be starting in the Netherlands! On 14, 15 and 16 August the riders will race through the Netherlands, including through the cities of Utrecht, 's-Hertogenbosch and Breda. The second stage leads from 's-Hertogenbosch back to Utrecht and the third stage starts and finishes in Breda. For this stage, the riders will start off at Breda Castle and will dismount at the Grote Kerk Church to walk through it with their bikes beside them. The route then continues through several municipalities in West-Brabant and the riders will finish in the old centre of Breda.

EFTELING’S NEW ROLLER COASTER: MAX & MORITZ

Roller coaster lovers and other daredevils take note! In spring 2020, theme park Efteling will be opening a new roller coaster on the spot which previously housed the bobsleigh ride. Max and Moritz are the two rascals from the famous German 1865 poem who were always causing mischief with their pranks. Theme Park Efteling used this story as inspiration for their newest ride: Max & Moritz. A double roller coaster with a naughty ride full of jokes and antics for the whole family. And in the summer holidays of 2020 you can enjoy it for even longer, because Efteling will extend its opening hours until 9 pm or even 10 pm every day!

THE ART OF FREEDOM - Impressive art installations at four war heritage sites

From March 2020 a visit to National Monument Camp Vught, War Museum Overloon, Museum Wings of Liberation in Best and the Biesbosch Museum Island will be extra special. Temporary art installations by renowned artists will provide visitors with a unique experience. Immerse yourself in video productions or in a wonderful soundscape. Let yourself be overwhelmed by a captivating spectacle of light and dark. The art responds to the location in such a way that guests will find themselves thinking about 75 years of freedom differently than before. Photo © Karin Jonkers

New Van Gogh presentation

After the exceptional Van Gogh’s Inner Circle exhibition in Het Noordbrabants Museum, this wonderful museum in the Museumkwartier in ’s-Hertogenbosch will open its doors to a new Van Gogh presentation in April. Experience Vincent Van Gogh’s years in Brabant based on his paintings and animations, film and sound excerpts developed especially for this museum. What did Van Gogh’s Brabant look like? And how did an initially misunderstood artist grow to become an icon? Did you know that this is the only place in Brabant where you can admire original works by this Brabant master artist? Tip: combine his works with Van Gogh’s heritage or tread literally in Van Gogh’s footsteps with the Van Gogh cycle route.

LUCAS GASSEL: SIXTEENTH CENTURY LANDSCAPE MASTER

In 2020 North Brabant commemorates the 450th anniversary of the death of Lucas Gassel, the famous landscape painter from Helmond. Gassel was a real innovator when it came to painting, just like the Brabant masters Hieronymous Bosch and Vincent van Gogh. From 10 March to 7 June 2020, Museum Helmond presents the first major retrospective of Lucas Gassel’s works. The loans come from European collections of important museums in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Spain, the United States, and Mexico, to name just a few.

These are only 6 examples, but of course there is so much more to experience in North Brabant. Looking for inspiration for your next holiday, weekend break or day out? Head to visitbrabant.com! We wish you a great 2020.
