In the Netherlands, the National Railway (NS) publishes lovely walks that start and end at a train station. The NS walk "Land van Ravenstein" starts at the train station in Ravenstein. The route passes through the villages of Deursen, Dennenburg, Dieden, Demen and Neerlangel. We also took the ferry across the river Maas to the village of Batenburg. A stroll through this little village is worth the extra effort. Don’t miss the Batenburg ruins. Then you can take the same ferry back across the river Maas. You can follow the route through the grass next to the river Maas or walk straight to restaurant De Drie Sterren which has a lovely outdoor area for a drink or a snack. Then you walk back to Ravenstein via the grassy embankments or the paved bicycle path. We took a closer look at several historic streets before walking back to our starting point. The round trip is around 16 km, but the route can be shortened. Visit the NS website for a description of this route.
